    Thomas Sowell on Racism

Warning: preg_match_all(): Compilation failed: invalid range in character class at offset 7 in /homepages/23/d339537987/htdocs/ec/wp-content/themes/p2/inc/mentions.php on line 77

One of the biggest issues facing the country right now is racism. It’s unfortunate that this plague of a concept had been eased by most accounts for years but that easing was short lived. It has seen a resurgence in the last few years during a time when America was supposed to have experienced an awakening by electing and reelecting its first black President.

Thomas Sowell understands racism from both sides. He’s been the victim of racism and he’s seen other victims taking advantage of it for their own gains. Today, we’re seeing this resurgence manifest itself in colleges around the country, only this time it’s in the latter format that Sowell has described. He rightly sees that Americans must look past our racial divides in order for the world to be a better place, but elements on both sides of the fence are making the situation worse than it’s been in decades.

William F Buckley on Expansion of Federal Activities

One of the hardest lessons for political novices to learn is that the federal government has a natural tendency to grow when its true purpose is and always has been to remain as small as possible. This isn’t something for Constitutional scholars to debate with modern political pundits. It has been demonstrated time and again that a focus on individual citizens and support of localized governments is the right way to keep the country operating properly.

When the federal government steps in, there are invariably problems with scale. The guidelines that communities use differ so dramatically from area to area, city to city, and state to state that the very concept of the federal government involving itself too deeply in matters that should be localized usually gets butchered. The US government should keep us safe and empower smaller levels of government to thrive.

The problem, as William F. Buckley Jr. so eloquently points out, is that those who rise to federal power want more of the say in what happens at the lower levels. This is why now more than ever we need a President who understands how the Constitution works and is willing to defend it.

Ronald Reagan on the Rule of Law Under God

Ronald Reagan on the Rule of Law Under God

Moderate Republicans and a huge percentage of Democrats downplay the need for the rule of law under God to be acknowledged. It’s not really a religious matter that begs the question about the separation of church and state. Christian conservatives like myself embrace the need for religious freedoms and do not want politics to be influenced by religion, but we also must be aware of the importance of values that flow through our laws as a direct result of our Judeo-Christian heritage.

Just as church must not influence state, so to must state not influence church.

Yes, I’d Eat Fast Food Made by a Job-Killing Robot

Warning: preg_match_all(): Compilation failed: invalid range in character class at offset 7 in /homepages/23/d339537987/htdocs/ec/wp-content/themes/p2/inc/mentions.php on line 77
As your standard technology-fearing, new-world-order-watching conservative Christian conspiracy theorist, it’s hard for me to even fathom the idea of supporting robots making my Big Mac. I shouldn’t be eating many Big Macs in the first place, but assuming I will, what does that say about the state of the fast food industry and the rise of the $15 national minimum wage rhetoric?

It has always made financial sense for businesses to use low-wage employees to support low-skill jobs such as those in the fast food industry. If wages are going to rise as most on the left seem bent to make happen, then businesses in many industries will need to be prepared for switches to the way they do business. One of those changes will be to consider (or reconsider) the option of automation. It’s an evil word to many of us, including me, but when we really look at the pros and cons, it starts to make more sense.

    Let’s start with the cons:

    • Loss of jobs. This is obviously the part that I’ve always been most against.
    • Robot overlords. While I still believe that Skynet is a few years away, there’s always a chance of a burger-building death machine spawning from this.

Now, let’s look at the pros:

    • Cheaper production costs. This isn’t the case when fast food employees are making what they should be making as fast food employees, but at $15 an hour it suddenly becomes potentially cheaper to automate.
    • Cleaner burgers. I use the drive-thru the vast majority of the time when I get fast food. It’s not that I’m lazy or in too big of a hurry; depending on the drive-thru line it can be quicker to go inside. I simply want to hide my eyes from the health risks that my paranoid mind sees every time I watch them making my Big Mac.
    • Consistency. As you’ll see in the video below, those nasty burgers can be consistently nasty if built by a robot.
    • Forced skills training. The old way was to use a low-level job as either a place to support yourself through school or a launching pad that one could use to get advancements. The new way is apparently going to be to start off at $15 per hour, leaving no need for improvement. If robots replace many low-level jobs, that means that people will have to improve their education and/or work skills just to be able to get a job in the first place.

    Fast Food Minimum Wage Battle

The concern over a national $15 minimum wage is real. To me, it’s clear that the pros of burger automation greatly outweigh the risks of our robot overlords expediting their rise.

Here’s the video that prompted this article. Enjoy, and be afraid. Be very afraid.

    Thomas Sowell on Force

With all that’s happening in the world today, more people are waking up to the unfortunate reality that barbarism still exists. There are those who will do harm to the innocent for the sake of their unrighteous desires. This is why we have a military. This is why we must defend ourselves. This is why even in the 21st century there are still times when we must resort to force.

    Benjamin Netanyahu on Peace

This sentiment has been proven time and time again throughout history. The only way to truly secure peace is through strength. It’s not even up for debate. Unfortunately, the current President of the United States has never believed in this concept which is why the world is in the worst condition that it’s seen in centuries.

The two World Wars demonstrated very clearly that passive attempts at peace were rewarded with bloodshed. Only when the nations rose and took charge of the situation through strength were the oppressors taken down and peace was given its chance to reign for a while.

William F. Buckley on Being Assertive

Warning: preg_match_all(): Compilation failed: invalid range in character class at offset 7 in /homepages/23/d339537987/htdocs/ec/wp-content/themes/p2/inc/mentions.php on line 77

William F. Buckley on Being AssertiveOne of the most prominent aspects of the wisdom of William F. Buckley Jr. is that he was bold with his message while being very precise with his words. That’s not to say that he was careful. Being precise is a trait in quotations that many politicians try to master but few have ever been able to do it like Buckley.

In this case, the precise words used are “usurpatory” and “assertive,” both of which declare the meaning of exactly what he was trying to say. Switch the words would more precisely demonstrate the way that government is most often attacked; the citizenry tries to usurp assertive governments in the form of votes. Instead, we should be discerning what the government is doing, select the appropriate times when they are overstepping their bounds, and assert ourselves in multiple forms to make them aware of what they can and cannot do.

    Ted Cruz on Iran Prisoners

    Ted Cruz Stand With You

The concept that we do not negotiate for hostages was dispelled by the horrendous trade for Bowe Bergdahl. Now, the Obama administration has made another stupid deal in Iran without utilizing the leverage of sanctions to secure the release of prisoners who should not be held.

Which is it? Do we negotiate for prisoners or not?

Power of the Purge for Ted Cruz

JD Power of the Purge for Ted Cruz

We’ve seen 1st term Senators Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rand Paul express frustration with how Congress operates. Some are saying it’s a wake up call for them to get more experience before trying to make big changes.

I believe they are the wake up call for Congress to make the changes necessary to act. With a Republican majority, we’re seeing no change. Some say we need a Republican President before this can happen. I say we need both – a strong conservative President and a shake-up in the Senate to bring action to the table.

    J.C. Watts on Equality

    J.C. Watts on Equality

Former Republican Congressman J.C. Watts knew a lot about equality. A Democrat in the 80s, he shifted allegiance after seeing what equal rights really needs to look like in America. Watts may be loosely in politics now with his company, but his words still resonate. It would be nice to see him give lawmaking another shot.
